May 14th, 2006 celebrates the birth of a great Triathlon event at Parque das Nações in Lisbon, Portugal. The first edition had some of the best athletes in the world and the top Portuguese.
The following years were no different. Lisboa fast became a Mecca for triathlon in Europe and a favorite destination to some of the best athletes in the world, to the likes of, Paul Amey, Luc Van Lierde, Timo Bracht, Marino Vanhoenacker, amongst many others. Lisboa has also been the stage for the participation of famous ex-athletes from other sports, such as Luis Enrique (Spanish national soccer player) and Johan Museeuw ("the Lion from Flandres"), one of the top cyclists ever in the world.
Today the Lisboa Triathlon is more than a race; it’s an event for the whole family with races fitting everyone’s preferences, from adults to kids and including the biggest triathlon Expo/Village in Portugal. The race sells out at 1.500 adult athletes from over 40 countries and a race for 500 kids.
The event returns on May 7th 2016. This edition now includes a new Race lounge with catering and some of the best race views, and a pasta party/event launch party on the opening day, Thursday May 5th (in 2016).
