Cameron Brown starts his 20th Port of Tauranga Half

New Zealand’s legend of long-distance triathlon, Cameron Brown will be on the start line this Saturday for his 20th Port of Tauranga Half, presented by Compressport, at Mount Maunganui. He starts each year with the Port of Tauranga Half, and has made this event his own, with ten victories and several other podium finishes since his first appearance in 1998. He recorded seven straight victories in the event from 1998-2004, and then wins in 2007, 2012 & 2014. more

Lionel Sanders, who emerged from the depths of a cold Canadian winter to defend his IRONMAN 70.3 Pucon win of 2017 started his day off with a 1.9 km swim that saw him exit the water in 10th, facing a 3:10 deficit to the leader. Due to dense mats of potentially toxic algal species at five sites around Lake Taupo, prompting a Council warning for the public to avoid swimming in affected areas, organisers of IRONMAN 70.3 Taupo have been forced to remove the swim leg and implement a contingency course, consisting of a 3km Run, 90km Bike and 21km Run. After receiving reports from the public of algae blooms, Waikato Regional Council scientists collected a number of algae samples on Tuesday and again yesterday from five sites. more

Around the world in 25 days! Last stop was Ironman Western Australia, in Busselton this past weekend where I would be fighting to defend my title from last year. After the long trip from Bahrian to Perth and with the body feeling pretty battered from the weekend before race, I was stoked to have my Physio Tawhai, here in Perth with me. In the men's race for much of the swim and the better part of the bike it was Matt Chrabot (USA), Igor Amorelli (BRA) and Reinaldo Colucci (BRA) duking it out and putting time on the field. Late in the bike Amorelli surged to the front while Chrabot eased off let Amorelli go as Colucci faded hard. Amorelli would eventually carry advantages of 3:53 on Chrabot and +9:35 on Colucci heading into T2. more

A change to a bike-run did nothing to alter the result as the 2016 winners Melissa Hauschildt and Terenzo Bozzone successfully defended their titles at IRONMAN Western Australia. Kevin Collington (USA) closed out his 2017 season with a win in Colombia. The American was out of the water with the leaders and was within a minute of the front of the race after the 90-km bike in Cartagena. TJ Tollakson (USA) took out the run hard and at one time was enjoying a three minute advantage on Collington in the first half of the run. Collington made a successful surge towards in the middle of the run and closed the gap at 14 km's when he ran his way into the lead and eventual win. more
