CHALLENGE Gran Canaria Pro Start List

Thursday 16 April 2026

The wait is over for the European triathlon circuit. With the stunning Atlantic Ocean as a backdrop, perfect temperatures, and the luxury hospitality of ANFI Resorts, Challenge Mogán-Gran Canaria is ready to kick off the European season in style. On April 18, the race will ignite as a powerhouse professional field goes head-to-head in what has become the traditional and highly anticipated European season opener for Challenge Family.

A Wide-Open Men’s Battle

With the event reaching capacity weeks ago, the atmosphere is expected to be electric. As the first major test on European soil, the men’s professional field is deep and hungry for those early-season podium chances.

Italy’s Michele Bortolamedi enters as the highest-ranked athlete (World #42), but he faces stiff competition from a pack of elites who have all spent the winter preparing for this moment: Nicolas Mann (GER) James Teagle (GBR) Michele Sarzilla (ITA) Jack Hutchens (GBR) Damien Le Mesnager (FRA) Thomas Navarro (FRA) With the rankings between these athletes being remarkably close, the fight for the first European title of the year is completely wide open. In total over 40 pro men athletes will start Challenge Mogán Gran-Canaria.

High Stakes in the Women’s Field

The women’s race features a compelling ‘duel on paper’ between two top-tier contenders. Megan McDonald (GBR, World #45), coming off a strong season of T100 racing, will face off against Justine Guerard (FRA, World #51), who last year claimed victory at Challenge Sanremo. However, there is one woman who stands out as the clear favourite: Caroline Pohle. The German athlete is coming off a magnificent season and currently holds an impressive 18th place in the world rankings. One thing is certain: Pohle won't be looking at anyone else; she will be racing at full throttle with only one goal in mind - to win.

However, the season opener often holds surprises. Among the talented outsiders, British powerhouse Nikki Bartlett looms as a major threat. Her fourth-place finish at the iconic DATEV Challenge Roth last year proved she remains firmly among the world’s elite and a favourite to spoil the party in Gran Canaria.

Setting the Tone for the Season

As the first Challenge Family stop of the season in Europe, Challenge Mogán-Gran Canaria sets the tone for the months to come. Known for its challenging climbs and breathtaking coastal views, it remains a favourite for pros and Age Group athletes alike. With a sold-out field and a Mediterranean backdrop, April 18 promises to be a spectacular start to the 2026 European triathlon season.
