Global leader in triathlon, IRONMAN has today announced the launch of its first-ever event in Romania with the introduction of the IRONMAN® 70.3® Mamaia Constan?a, Romania triathlon set to take place on Sunday, 26 September 2027. The event will also mark a historic milestone as the first IRONMAN 70.3 race to be staged in the Black Sea, offering athletes the opportunity to qualify for the 2028 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship while racing in one of Eastern Europe’s most distinctive coastal destinations.
Located on Romania’s Black Sea coast Mamaia-Constan?a is known for its long sandy beaches, vibrant atmosphere and unique position between the Black Sea and Lake Siutghiol. The destination combines seaside energy, rich cultural heritage and modern tourism infrastructure, creating a compelling setting for athletes and spectators alike. Mamaia-Constan?a welcomes millions of visitors each year and is easily accessible through Mihail Kogalniceanu International Airport, as well as extensive road and rail connections. Beyond race day, visitors can explore the city's historic Old Town, impressive architecture, bustling marina, museums, restaurants and beaches, making it an ideal destination for athletes travelling with friends and family.
Participation in IRONMAN 70.3 events continues to rise, with more than 20 European races in the 2027 series already sold out. The introduction of this new event offers athletes an additional late-season opportunity to race across Europe next year.

Course Description
ROKA SWIM COURSE
Athletes will begin their race with a 1.9 km one-loop swim in the Black Sea, making this the first-ever IRONMAN 70.3 swim course staged in these waters. Starting in the heart of Mamaia as the sun rises over the coastline, athletes will experience a calm yet memorable beginning to race day. The course is designed to help competitors find their rhythm early, swimming through open water with the Mamaiashoreline providing a spectacular backdrop.
Water temperature is expected to be approximately 16°C (61°F).
ROUVY BIKE COURSE
The 90 km one-loop bike course is designed to be flat, fast and ideal for personal best performances. Athletes will leave the energy of Mamaia behind and head onto wide open roads shaped by coastal landscapes, sea air and the expansive scenery of the Black Sea region.
Long flowing sections and smooth roads create the perfect environment for maintaining speed before the course reaches the historic city of Constan?a, where athletes will be greeted by spectators and the atmosphere of one of Europe’s oldest cities.
SALOMON RUN COURSE
The final 21.1 km run takes athletes along the famous Mamaia promenade on Romania’s renowned Riviera. Flat and fast, the course keeps competitors close to the sea throughout much of the run while offering continuous support from spectators lining the route.
