Matthew Sharpe, Rach McBride Victorious at 70.3 Boulder USA

Scenic Boulder, Colorado and the majestic Flatirons provided a stunning backdrop for the 20th edition of the IRONMAN®?70.3® Boulder triathlon. With some of triathlon’s best on hand, a pair of Canadians took honors on the day. Matthew Sharpe (CAN) won the men’s professional race with a finishing time of 3:49:56 while Rach McBride (CAN) topped the podium in the women’s professional race with a time of 4:12:53. The race was featured live on Outside TV, one of 11 IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon events from across the globe broadcast exclusively on the platform.
 
Finishing on the men’s professional podium were Boulder residents Justin Metzler (USA) in second with a finishing time of 3:50:48 and Ben Hoffman (USA) who posted a 3:51:01 finishing time that was good for third place. On the women’s professional podium, Lesley Smith (USA) took second behind McBride with a time of 4:16:13, while Hannah Wells (NZL) finished in third with a time of 4:19:30.

The 2022 IRONMAN?70.3 Boulder triathlon saw more than 2,100 athletes start the race ranging in age from 18-80 years old. Athletes kicked off their 70.3-mile journey with a 1.2-mile swim in the Boulder reservoir before embarking on the 56-mile bike course through the rolling hills of Boulder County. The 13.1-mile two loop run course took athletes through along the Boulder Reservoir, up 63rd Street to Monarch, and all along the Dam Road before finishing back at Boulder Reservoir. The event offered a professional prize purse of $30,000. Additionally, 2022 IRONMAN?70.3 Boulder was a dual qualifier offering slots to both the 2022 Intermountain Healthcare IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship presented by Utah Sports Commission in St. George, Utah, and the 2023 VinFast IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Lahti, Finland.
