Following the success of IRONMAN® 70.3® events in Cozumel, Monterrey, and Los Cabos, The IRONMAN Group today announced the addition of a new IRONMAN 70.3 event that will take place in Mexico's largest beach and resort city, Acapulco, Mexico. The inaugural Mazda IRONMAN 70.3 Acapulco Riviera Diamante presented by Mundo Imperial will debut on Sunday, May 23, 2021, with general registration opening on Wednesday, December 23 at  www.ironman.com/im703-acapulco.

“The demand for IRONMAN-branded events continues to grow across Mexico,” said Joanna Jordan, Vice President of Latin America for The IRONMAN Group. “With the success of the IRONMAN brand across the region, Acapulco becomes the fourth city in Mexico to host an IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon. The community’s inviting and captivating energy makes it both an ideal and exciting location to offer our athletes.”

Known as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Latin America, Acapulco has been attracting tourists from around the world to the Pacific coastline of Mexico since the 1940s. With a tropical wet and dry climate and an abundance of resort communities offering idyllic lodging for athletes and their families, Acapulco is sure to offer a truly unique experience for all that come to compete.

The Mazda IRONMAN 70.3 Acapulco Riviera Diamante presented by Mundo Imperial will begin by taking athletes along a 1.2-mile (1.9 km) single-lap swim at Majahua Beach in Puerto Marqués.
