CHALLENGE FAMILY adds CHALLENGE GDANSK to its portfolio

Wednesday 02 December 2020

With an iconic location next to the Baltic Sea, a lightning fast course and a breathtaking finish on the beautiful city pier, CHALLENGE FAMILY is already looking forward to the newest race on the calendar: on June 20th, 2021, CHALLENGE GDANSK will take place for at least 1750 athletes. "I'm very proud and happy that after almost three years of working we can announce our new race and now we can invite all athletes to race in this beautiful city", says Race Director Adam Greczylo.

"This is a great honour and very big responsibility to bring CHALLENGE FAMILY back to Poland", Greczylo continues about CHALLENGE GDANSK. This new event will host a Middle Distance with a capacity of thousand athletes and a Sprint Distance with a capacity of 750 athletes. ''For us it's important to have a race that suits most types of athletes. Athletes who focus on the longer distances can go all out on the Middle Distance, while athletes who focus more on the shorter distances can push themselves to their limits on the Sprint distance."

Athletes will start their CHALLENGE GDANSK from a beach at the Baltic Sea, while the bike course consists of three flat and fasts laps where athletes pass, among other things, the Energa Stadion - which was used during the EURO2012 soccer tournament - and the famous tunnel under the Vistula river. The run course takes athletes along the beautiful Gdansk beach, while the finish line becomes a real highlight on the Gdansk Prior Pier. "I warmly welcome all triathletes to Gdansk in June 2021. They will have an amazing opportunity to race in a historic and modern city, surrounded by extraordinary nature", says Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, the Mayor of Gdansk.

Adam Korol, director of the Gdansk sports bureau added. "As an Olympic Champion and four time World Champion in rowing I am always proud and happy whenever we can host an international event. Despite the end of my sports career, I remain active and observe the battles of athletes with great pleasure. I am looking forward to this unique race in my city. I encourage all those who feel up to it to take part in CHALLENGE GDANSK. Let everyone choose the distance according to his or her abilities and let the best win!

For CHALLENGE FAMILY, CHALLENGE GDANSK is a huge asset on the calendar, CEO Jort Vlam explains. "Poland is a beautiful country and Gdansk is a city as beautiful as it is special. This race venue is suitable for athletes from all over Europe, but certainly also for athletes from outside Europe. On June 20th we are going to have a spectacular and unforgettable race here."
