Lionel Sanders, Paula Findlay win 70.3 Indian Wells California

The dazzling Palm Springs area provided a picturesque desert backdrop for athletes from around the world today at year two of the IRONMAN® 70.3® Indian Wells La Quinta triathlon. Lionel Sanders (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) took the overall win clocking a time of a time of 3:34:37, while Paula Findlay (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) captured the women’s title with a time of 4:07:38 in the second edition of this event.
 
Eric Lagerstrom (Salt Lake City, Utah, U.S.A.) finished in second place for the men with a time of 3:47:46, while Miki Taagholt (Denmark, Germany, Europe) rounded out the podium in third recording a time of 3:51:36, respectively. On the women’s side, Alissa Doehla (Fort Wayne, Indiana, U.S.A.) finished second clocking a time of 4:15:07 while Chelsea Sodaro (Davis, California, U.S.A.) came in third with a total time of 4:17:48.

The 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 Indian Wells La Quinta triathlon welcomed more than 3,000 athletes representing 40 countries, regions and territories and 48 states across the U.S. Competitors ranged in age from 18–81 years old. One of more than 110 events in the global IRONMAN 70.3 Series, the IRONMAN 70.3 Indian Wells La Quinta triathlon led athletes along a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run throughout the cities of Indian Wells and La Quinta, California as well as their surrounding areas. Athletes began their day with a single-loop swim in the famous Lake Cahuilla. Once out of the water, participants embarked upon a flat, single-loop, 56-mile bike course through La Quinta and Indian Wells down the county’s rural roads with spectacular views of the surrounding Santa Rosa Mountains. The two-loop, 13.1-mile run began at the famous Indian Wells Tennis Gardens and traversed much of the Indian Wells Golf Resort, before returning to the Tennis Garden for a grand finish to not only the race, but the 2019 race season. The event offered a total professional prize purse of $25,000 and 40 coveted age-group qualifying slots to 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Taupo, New Zealand.
