PT Porto, Portugal
A tribute to the first athletes to complete the 3,8Kms swim, 180Km bike ride and 42Km run which was Ironman’s first edition in Hawaii in 1978. 39 years later on October 7th 2017 a group of friends gathered to repeat the ordeal trying to recreate the original spirit of the original race. Since then, every October is the home of the Spirit of 78 Triathlon. Every athlete at the starting line should have the feel of the first race in Hawaii in 1978. In order for the spirit of the 70’s to exist, it’s mandatory that every male athlete has a moustache, beard or any other facial hair. The main goal is to keep the race as faithful to the original as possible. Speedo’s are strongly encouraged to wear and top sleevless shirts. Cycling shorts can be worn as well as running shorts and top. Time trial bicycles and Aero helmets are banned from this event. We do encourage the use of steel bikes with gear changing on the frame. In order to maintain the spirit of the first edition of the Ironman, the number of athletes in the start line will be limited to 80, that will be chosen in a drawn between all registrations. These entries will not have any cost, athletes only have to fill out a form and wait for them to be drawn. Registrations are open until May 31th. The draw will be held on June 1st.
