Diana Riesler’s already impressive 2014 season continued with her first Ironman Championship Title at Ironman Malaysia.
Coming out of the swim in 3rd position with a 59mins swim time, Diana then dominated race once she took the lead on the bike at the 25km mark and from that moment onwards there was no competitor able to respond to Diana’s 4hrs 58mins bike ride (6th overall bike time male and female) and a marathon fastest time of 3hrs 23mins under extremely hot and humid conditions for which Ironman Malaysia is well known.
Diana won Ironman Malaysia in true champion style and finished her race in 5th overall position leaving only 4 male professional athletes in front of her.
Obviously Diana was ecstatic at the finish line with her race victory today as this was her very first time to be crowned ‘Ironman Champion’ after she was 2nd in Ironman UK (2011), 3rd in IM South Africa (2011 and 2012) and 3rd IM Austria (2011).
2014 has been a break-through season for Diana coached by Joseph Spindler with a 3rd place in IM 70.3 Barcelona, 6th place in Challenge Roth and 2nd place in the Meta Man ironman distance race in Bintan (Indonesia) just last month.
