Friday 18 June 2021

Following more than a year of COVID-19-induced interruptions, the inaugural edition of Certified Piedmontese IRONMAN® 70.3® Des Moines triathlon will take place on Sunday, June 20, 2021.

“We are very excited to finally be racing in Des Moines,” said Brian Bohrer, Operations Director at The IRONMAN Group. “There has been much anticipation and with the hard work we have put in place to implement our Safe Return to Racing Guidelines, that will allow us to conduct these races safely. We are looking forward to bringing a great first edition of this IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon to the Greater Des Moines region under safe and enjoyable conditions for all involved.”

The Certified Piedmontese IRONMAN 70.3 Des Moines will take athletes on a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run through one of the fastest growing metro areas of the Midwest. Athletes will start their day with a swim in beautiful Gray’s Lake, just miles from the heart of downtown Des Moines. The bike course offers rolling hills and flat roads through rural farmlands with city views. The day ends with a run through Gray’s Lake Park and downtown Des Moines with a finish line on Court Avenue.

The IRONMAN Foundation will also be onsite at Certified Piedmontese IRONMAN 70.3 Des Moines to host an IRONAID Food Drive, as well as support its Gold Star Initiative and TEAM IMF Athletes. IRONMAN Foundation staff and volunteers will collect food donations for the DMARC Food Pantry Network in IRONMAN Village in the days leading up to the race. On race day the IRONMAN Foundation will host a Des Moines Gold Star family for its Gold Star Initiative, a program that gives veterans the chance to race in remembrance of a military member who lost their life while serving our country. One Certified Piedmontese IRONMAN 70.3 Des Moines athlete will carry an American flag during the run portion of the race and present it to a local Gold Star Family at the finish line.
