In the men's race for much of the swim and the better part of the bike it was Matt Chrabot (USA), Igor Amorelli (BRA) and Reinaldo Colucci (BRA) duking it out and putting time on the field. Late in the bike Amorelli surged to the front while Chrabot eased off let Amorelli go as Colucci faded hard. Amorelli would eventually carry advantages of 3:53 on Chrabot and +9:35 on Colucci heading into T2.
It would take Chrabot 20 km's to catch and pass Amorelli and storm on to the win by a margin of over six minutes on Jozsef Major (HUN) who passed Amorelli in the late km's of the run.
The ageless Dede Griesbauer (USA) was in her element in the swim and bike in Argentina. The 47-year-old racked up a gap of 8:38 on Tine Deckers (BEL) and 9:29 Sarah Piampiano (USA) coming off the bike and looked like she would be a solid pick for a podium finish. Magilia Tisseyre (CAN) and Piampiano had other plans as the pair laid down the first and second fastest run splits on the day respectfully. Piampiano would grab the win by over eight minutes on Deckers and over 13 minutes on Tisserye who finished third after nipping Griesbauer for the podium close to the finish line.
