Bahrain Endurance silver lining weekend

Bahrain Endurance silver lining weekend

Wednesday 25 May 2016 [Triathlon News]

Jan Frodeno stamped his ticket to Kona with a second place finish at Ironman Lanzarote on Sunday. The current Ironman World Champion led out of the swim, but a helmet malfunction in transition delayed his entry onto the bike course. With the day’s second fastest bike split, Frodeno once again put himself into position to win, taking to the front at five kilometers into the marathon. It was only in the last third of the run leg that eventual winner Jesse Thomas took the lead and then the win. more

Nilsson and Bilham Brilliant in Barcelona

Nilsson and Bilham Brilliant in Barcelona

Monday 23 May 2016 [Triathlon News]

The Swiss women's champion impresses while the Swedish men’s champion strikes late. Smart tactics pay off a lot in long-distance events. Swede Patrik Nilsson was working hard for the win at IRONMAN 70.3 Barcelona, but moreover, was waiting long for the right moment to make his move. When Guillem Rojas (ESP) led the men’s pro field out of the water in 23:25, Nilsson was in 11th, but only 11 seconds behind and already in the mix. more

International field set to race the new 32Gi Eastbourne Triathlon

Friday 27 May 2016 Norsemen
It’s one of the biggest new events to hit the triathlon calendar in years and the countdown has now begun for the new 32Gi Eastbourne Triathlon, set in the picturesque South-Coast town for the 12th June 2016. An international field is set to assemble for the race, headlined by world-class Australian star of the sport Ben Allen, who tops the bill with ten other elite entries in the event. Allen, who has 16x XTERRA World Cup wins, 2x top-3 world championship podiums and is the Australian national champion will face stiff opposition from a host of top British triathletes who will not want their Antipodean rival to come away with a domestic title on their turf. His key rivals on the day will no doubt come from one of Richard Stannard (7x World Champion and 3x British Champion), Sam Wade (2nd at Hever Castle triathlon and the 20-24 British Champion), Matt Dewis and Karl Alexander. Also racing and very motivated will be some local elites including the GB Junior duo from Eastbourne, Harrison...

How To Approach Fueling On The Road

Friday 27 May 2016 Triathlete.com
How should i approach my fueling (especially race morning) on the road? A: Don’t let travel derail your stellar fuel plan. Although eating well on the road requires more planning and thought, it can certainly be done. The key is preparation and ensuring you are consuming balanced meals and snacks, which contain fiber, protein and fat. Follow these general travel fueling tips: Check out restaurants at your destination online ahead of time. Have healthier restaurant options in mind before you even leave home. Grab a menu before a table. Check out the menu before sitting down, and secure a couple healthy options. Avoid fast-food establishments. Need I say more? Make modifications to the menu. Make the menu item what you want it to be. Replace breaded chicken with grilled chicken, or throw avocado and walnuts on your salad for added healthy fat. Share something with a friend. It’s a given that your restaurant entrée could feed a small pack of wolves. Take half of it back to the hotel or...

Lights, camera .. stop! A case for retooling Ironman Live

Friday 27 May 2016 Admin
Words Phil Wrochna ‘How was the coverage?” This is a question that is sure to animate any hard core triathlon fan. The coverage of triathlon is a hit and miss proposition at the best of times. And when it misses it misses badly. Inherently the sport of triathlon has been mired in shoddy productions for years. And there are a few pointers as to why we get fails on this. Before we start we should also disclaim that we are fans of the ITU programming and we also understand that no one goes out there to not do their best job. ITU also has a winning formula and far less challenges than any other form of triathlon. Multi looped courses, big drafting bunches and a number of years of broadcasting from those venues. In all, the ITU are the benchmark in triathlon media and most of these comments are not for them. Where Ironman coverage fails is quite straight forward. Money. It costs a lot of money to broadcast any live sport. The biggest sports in the world (golf, tennis etc) have strong brand...

Oat Super Cookie

Friday 27 May 2016 Jaimie Jacobs
My Oat Super Cookie Recipe that will have you reaching for more:) Its perfect for those wanting an Anzac Cookie without the butter and refined sugar! Dip it in your tea or take a couple on your long ride. It ticks all the foodie boxes! Ingredients 1 cup Almond Meal 2 cups Oats ¼ cup shredded coconut ¼ cup pepitas ¼ cup Chia Seeds *1 cup Dried Fruit 1 ripe Banana mashed ½ cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil ½ cup Maple Syrup 1Tbs Cinnamon ground 1 Tsp Baking Powder *Optional: Orange zest for a festive twist   *Note – I use Activated Nuts (soak raw almonds for 8-12 hrs then dry so they are in the ‘growing’ phase:) I used organic dried apricots, prunes and sultanas finely sliced although would usually add figs and medjool dates tooJ   Method Combine all ingrediants in a bowl and mix until well combined. Roll into balls and place on trays (with baking paper) slightly pushing down on them to resemble a cookie like shape. Cook until golden brown on 180 degrees!   Happy Munching and...

Sports Illustrated's Fittest 50 2016!!

Wednesday 25 May 2016 Jessi Stensland
Si_parkour_cropped Yours truly one of the 50 Fittest? Well.....if as Tom Myers says these days... "You are fit if you can adapt to the demands of your environment with ease and imagination." ...then YES! It's the agility component over any/all terrain I'm most stoked on evolving these days in addition to strength, cardio, endurance that I have such experience with from my past. SO FUN. Cool that SI acknowledged quite a range of "fitness" in this list. It's this definition of fit that I relate to these days, having a desire to be both comfortable and capable on land, in the air or water...on my feet, a bike, skis, scuba, kayaks, or now with parkour. Reflections on the Adventure that was 2015

Time does fly when you're having fun. Come along if you'd like :) First of all - thank YOU - to everyone who was a part of my year, in mind, body and/or spirit. The reflections below do not tell all. Above all YOU made this my best year yet... Snapshot: This year I moved. A lot. For the first half of the year my lifestyle was active; my work was active; daily outdoor adventure was the norm. My mind was challenged more by physical tasks than intellectual stimulation, which perhaps was why it went into overdrive for the second half of the year with the conceptualization, creation and launch of FEET FREEX - a movement to inspire a greater understanding and use of feet and footwear innovations designed to suit them. Threads that weave their way through my day to day these days... Love. Curiosity. Fun. Being aware and fully alive. Incidental education. Traveling...

Race Recap: Las Catalinas Triathlon

Wednesday 15 Apr 2015 Jessi Stensland
11045325_836150786468070_8660503337038089633_o One of my favorite triathlons I've done hands down.  Small town vibe, amazing calm clear blue water for the swim, 99% of the bike and run was on singletrack and a finish on the main street of the town I've been calling home.  The ice cold mobile sponge baths on the run were icing on the cake!!  Won the ladies division...simply felt great and glad to be a part of the community.  Managed an "a cachete" (ah kah-cheh-teh) to my Costa Rican buddy Juan Carlos as we passed on the course who taught me the slang street phrase, meaning "con todo" or well stocked, but similar to saying “belly full.” As he explained it, all is good and we've got all we need, nothing more...just about right for that moment.  Hard work on the hills but so satisfying and fantastic. My favorite quote of the day came from Charles Brewer the founder of this new town of Las Catalinas, who also did the triathlon, winning his age group: "I think this is the greatest day in Las Catalinas history," he said as he glanced...
