Cape Town gives Holland first WTS win

Cape Town gives Holland first WTS win

Saturday 25 Apr 2015 [Triathlon News]

Under foggy skies and with a slight chill in the air, Great Britain’s Vicky Holland announced her return from injury in style with her first ever World Triathlon Series win. A late surge on the run gave the Brit just what she needed to hold off the USA’s Katie Zaferes and Switzerland’s Nicola Spirig. With silver, Zaferes moved into the top spot on the Columbia Threadneedle Rankings. more

Bozzone Brilliant in Taiwan

Saturday 25 Apr 2015 [Triathlon News]

New Zealand’s Terenzo Bozzone continued his unbeaten 2015 record over the half distance today winning Challenge Taiwan. The 30-year-old was pushed all the way in the early stages but made his move on the run, eventually winning in a time of 3:52:31. Russian Eva Potuckova’s experience showed, recording her first win of the season from Kathryn Haesner in her first professional race and Australian Brooke Langereis in her half distance debut. more

70.3 Texas preview

70.3 Texas preview

Friday 24 Apr 2015 [Triathlon News]

This early spring race is characterized by humid, windy conditions, though at this time of year, the scorching Texas heat is less of a factor. The surrounding area offers attractions for families, including the famous Moody Gardens with its pink, blue, and white glass pyramids housing a 10-story rainforest, and one of the world’s largest aquariums. If hot temperatures do make an appearance, the Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark is a popular option. more

Crown up for grabs in Cape Town

Friday 24 Apr 2015 [Triathlon News]

Cape Town marks the fourth stop and the third continent on the 2015 ITU World Triathlon Series. Having just been added to the WTS line up last year, the South African course is a standard distance affair, with the women set to start the competition on Saturday followed by the men on Sunday. more

Holland Gets First WTS Win, Zaferes Earns 4th-Straight Podium In Cape Town

Saturday 25 Apr 2015 Triathlete.com
The podium in Cape Town: Katie Zaferes (2nd), Vicky Holland (1st) and Nicola Spirig (3rd). Under foggy skies and a slight chill in the air, Great Britain’s Vicky Holland announced her return from injury in style with her first ever World Triathlon Series win. A late surge on the run gave the Brit just what she needed to hold off the USA’s Katie Zaferes and Switzerland’s Nicola Spirig. With silver, Zaferes moved into the top spot on the Columbia Threadneedle Rankings. Read the race recap from Triathlon.org below: Zaferes got her day started with a bang as she zoomed to the top of the swim pack and led the 48-deep field around the one-lap 750m swim, which was shortened due to low water temperatures. Brazil’s Pamela Oliveira joined the American as one of the first athletes to emerge, with Great Britain’s Helen Jenkins also seemingly un-phased by the chilly temps with a strong position out of the Atlantic. Together with Flora Duffy (BER), the foursome powered away on the first of eight...

Gear review: X-Bionic clothing

Saturday 25 Apr 2015 Paul Moore
You may have heard of Swiss clothing company X-Bionic through their sponsorship of the Power Horse Triathlon Team, which includes 2014 Challenge Roth champion Timo Bracht, Jan Raphael, Horst Reichal and Georg Potrebitsch. X-Bionic started out in the sports clothing world making anatomically shaped technical socks for skiers. Their success here led to the production of jackets before X-Bionic went on to produce technical clothing for a wide range of outdoor pursuits including running and cycling. X-Bionic, who use Swiss technology but produce all of their garments in Italy, took a different approach to creating sports clothing. Instead of producing sweat-absorbing materials like those around at the time, X-Bionic used scientific based evidence to create membranes designed to return energy back to the body rather than absorb it. X-Bionic believe that every fibre has a function, and uses high-tech research and production methods to produce the most innovative materials. This approached...

Tri Camp-ing and some news!!

Friday 24 Apr 2015 Hillarybiscay
unnamed-9 As promised, I have finally sat down to share some of our spring Tucson Camp highlights here! This was the first year we were able to offer not just one but two weekends of smashfest fun. There really is nothing I love more than being able to work with my athletes in person (and smash myself alongside them!) so camp is always a highlight of my year. Our camps are open to athletes who are not part of TeamHPB as well so we also get the pleasure of getting to know new athletes and including them in our group for the weekend. Our “kids” are always very welcoming and watching the athletes bond as a group through shared pain and suffering is such a highlight. We do even include designated “social” bikes and runs besides those of the smashfest variety. On Saturday everyone sets some kind of new precedent in the pool–for longest or hardest swim ever. We have different lanes for different challenges but my main concern is that everyone emerges having proved...

Why I Struggle

Friday 24 Apr 2015 Pete Jacobs
Pete-Jacobs-bike-victory It’s not easy to do anything when you are tired like I get, and I feel like I’ve been tired for most of the last 2 years, and for a significant part of my life since I was 15. And I’m tired of being tired.   Lots and lots of tests never found anything and I learnt a lot about life and what makes me happy over those early years as a professional triathlete struggling to string more than a few weeks of training together without hitting a wall of fatigue. Simple pleasures, days where I felt good and not fatigued, became the measure of my life. Sometimes the fatigue lasted a couple of days, other times it lasted months. But I’ve never cursed my journey, I’ve never wished I’d had it easier, and I’ve never despaired and wondered why me (except when I was 16, young, and couldn’t comprehend being less able than others). I’m usually an optimistic and patient person, traits that were reinforced as I had to cope with many setbacks with my fatigue. I am generally a laid back type of...

Pre Challenge Bahrain & other stuff

Friday 05 Dec 2014 Pete Jacobs
;) It’s the day before Challenge Bahrain, one of the richest triathlon races in the world, and I’m looking forward to the break afterward. Not exactly how I would chose to be feeling before a big race but the last month has gone similar to my year. It started with a rest after Hawaii, then a couple of weeks feeling pretty good, then the last couple of weeks feeling tired. I don’t like this feeling. All I want is to race against the best in the world and beat them. And for me, who believes I can beat them when I’m in my best health and fitness, this is incredibly frustrating and life changing. The last two years have been dismal for results. It has made me question everything, and made me realize I need to make some changes in more ways than one. It’s made me question the direction I am headed, what I value in life, what I want to get out of my career and what I want to achieve outside of racing too. Sorry but I don’t have the answers to share with you. However, I want nothing more than to...

An open letter to Ironman CEO.

Tuesday 30 Sep 2014 Pete Jacobs
To Andrew Messick CEO World Triathlon Corporation I wish I wasn’t wasting my time writing this. But I’ve already wasted far too much energy dwelling on this since it was said and I don’t want it to be an issue between us any longer as it is Kona race week next week and we will surely cross paths. Well I know we will cross paths since I am invited to the pre race press conference as your 2012 Ironman World Champion. It’s been 7 weeks since you alluded that I was unprofessional in that infamous slowtwitch.com article referenced below. http://www.slowtwitch.com/Interview/Messick_explains_the_changes_4511.html I waited, and a tiny part of me thought perhaps you would make contact to clear the air, and perhaps even apologize for suggesting my painful 11:42 Ironman validation unprofessional, and for comparing me, and indirectly all professional triathletes, to a professional cyclist. For you to suggest the two sports are even remotely similar and requiring similar effort to compete in was...

Jaimie’s Blog – No Longer a Virgin of Full Distance Triathlon!

Tuesday 16 Sep 2014 Jaimie Jacobs
<photo.JPG> Jaimie’s Blog: No Longer a Virgin of Full Distance Triathlon!  Well to say Challenge Roth was uneventful would be an absolute lie. Apparently it was one of the toughest years in its 30 year history with the wind and the heat at its cruelest with the highest amount of athletes in the medical tent (20% of starters did not finish). Yet strangely the wind and the heat I did not notice until I heard people talking about it – I was doing my first ‘full distance triathlon’, living the dream. My dream. You know its going to be a memorable day when it starts with Cindy Lauper blaring through the speakers “Girls just want to have fun” – this is awesome at any time and or place of the day let alone in Germany whilst treading water on the start line of Challenge Roth! What is Challenge Roth? Picture Tour De France moments where one is enveloped in a kilometre of avid supporters 10 people deep whilst pedaling up what is called Solar Hill. Cyclists must ride single file. The ride course...
