The IRONMAN Foundation’s annual auction on eBay benefits charitable organizations worldwide. Each year, more than 100,000 athletes vie for slots to the IRONMAN World Championship presented by GoPro at qualifying IRONMAN events worldwide, while only approximately 2,000 make it to the starting line on race day. more

Jessica Meyers, What a Difference a Week Makes!

Jessica Meyers, What a Difference a Week Makes!

Wednesday 23 Apr 2014 [Triathlon News]

I'm sitting on a plane again so I figured it would be a good time to write my race report from Galveston or Ironman Texas 70.3. I wrote a report for Oceanside 70.3 but in typical Jessica fashion I never seemed to get around to publishing it! Rather than bore you I'll give you a brief synopsis: I sucked. Well, in my defense I did have mechanical. My wheel rubbed my brake the entire time. more

Amelia Pearson, Pre Season

Amelia Pearson, Pre Season

Wednesday 23 Apr 2014 [Triathlon News]

Embarking on a fitness campaign is never easy. But now that winter is over it is time to get fit ready for summer. Our first guests for Tri4theAlps arrive on 1 June so I really want to be in good shape for when they do! So building the base is all about consistent sessions, slowly and steadily increasing the duration and getting the job done. I've been working predominately on aerobic conditioning with some strength work thrown in too and I'm starting to feel ok. I've been concentrating on good more

Amanda Stevens, Adventure in Puerto Rico

Tuesday 22 Apr 2014 [Triathlon News]

What a FUN Adventure this was! I was lucky enough to be joined in Puerto Rico by husband-extraordinaire, Randy, and a wonderful host, Isis. We were both spoiled by all things Puerto Rican…good food (restaurants and home-cooked by Isis!), beaches, rainforests, and a spectacular race-course. more

Is There Enough Fiber In Your Diet?

Wednesday 23 Apr 2014 Matt Fitzgerald
Beans and lentils are good sources of fiber. Most people do not meet the recommended 20-35 grams of fiber daily. Photo: www.shutterstock.comLearn how this nutrient should fit into your nutrition plan. Fiber (also known as roughage) is the name given to two kinds of highly complex carbohydrate that are totally indigestible. Although fiber is technically carbohydrate, unlike other forms of carbohydrate (sugars and starches) it provides no calories because it is not absorbed into the bloodstream. Insoluble fiber (mainly cellulose) is an important structural material in plants. It does not provide nutrition to humans when consumed but instead benefits us by absorbing and neutralizing toxins and by contributing to well-hydrated, bulky solid waste that is easily passed. Water-soluble fiber helps the body absorb minerals and helps remove nutrient excesses, including cholesterol, from the body. Fiber And Health Adequate fiber intake is essential for optimal health, while inadequate fiber...

ITU WTS Series Heads To Cape Town

Wednesday 23 Apr 2014 Triathlete.com
Jonathan Brownlee and Javier Gomez will once again go head-to-head in Cape Town. Photo: Janos Schmidt/Triathlon.orgIn the highly anticipated debut of Africa on the World Triathlon Series calendar, the men’s and women’s races again spotlight impressive fields for the two-lap 1500m V&A Waterfront swim, which will be followed by an eight-lap bike with constant ocean views and a four-lap 10km run in Cape Town. The women’s race will be headlined by the top ranked Jodie Stimpson (GBR), while the men’s race sees another battle between Jonathan Brownlee (GBR) and current men’s leader Javier Gomez (ESP). Men’s Preview While the late withdrawal of Alistair Brownlee, who stated he wasn’t 100% on Wednesday, means that Cape Town won’t add another chapter in the Brownlee brothers versus Gomez book, the battle between Jonathan Brownlee and Javier Gomez is still one worthy of any triathlon fans time. In the past five events they have competed against each other,...

Montana World Championships

Wednesday 23 Apr 2014 Ben Hoffman
GrizBike1 This past weekend marked a return to my roots in triathlon racing, as I boarded a plane and flew north to do battle on the storied grounds of the Grizzly Triathlon, in Missoula, Montana. As it were, these very same grounds were a serious point of contention, since course changes through the years had left Todd Struckman’s “course record” (more appropriately a race record) intact since 2001.  With the addition of the treacherous “s” curves behind Eastgate Shopping Center on the bike, and more importantly, “The Hill,” which climbs the initial portion of the Smokejumpers Trail on the run, the course had become significantly slower and the record remained just out of reach. My last two efforts left me knocking on the door, coming up just 28 seconds, and then a mere 7 seconds shy, but I temporarily retreated from future battles in 2010 having stockpiled 5 straight titles to match such legends as Calamity Seeley and David “Blastoff” Berkhoff.  With triathlon as a job, I sought out new...

"Back on the horse"

Wednesday 23 Apr 2014 Noreply@blogger.com (Luke Bell)
Due to the incident during Ironman Western Australia late last year during the bike portion where an altercation with a media motorbike resulted in knee surgery early in the year. It is now nice to be bouncing back all be it later in the Australian summer than hoped, (missing Ironman Melbourne - home event) and gearing up for Ironman Australia in Port Macquarie.Although the preparation has not been 100% due to rehab, I can say that I have been able to do as much training as possible that my body would allow me. That means I am heading into Ironman Australia (as defending champion) in the best position I can be under the circumstances, or cards dealt.I am very much looking forward to getting back on the start line, feeling those nerves pre race and just "letting go" once the gun goes off.We train to race and race because we love it.BestLuke :)

Oceanside to Galveston...What a Difference a Week Makes!

Monday 21 Apr 2014 Jessica Meyers (noreply@blogger.com)
I'm sitting on a plane again so I figured it would be a good time to write my race report from Galveston or Ironman Texas 70.3. I wrote a report for Oceanside 70.3 but in typical Jessica fashion I never seemed to get around to publishing it! Rather than bore you I'll give you a brief synopsis: I sucked. Well, in my defense I did have mechanical. My wheel rubbed my brake the entire time. I got off the bike twice to fix it, the wheel would spin no problem, only to get back on and hear that dreaded sound of carbon rubbing (and you know exactly that cringe worthy sound). But beyond that, I was completely flat for the race. The swim was off, the bike my legs just felt like bricks, and the first loop of the run I was clipping off a great pace, but once the gravity of how far I was behind I just shut it down. My mind got the best of me, I felt sorry for myself, my ego was bruised...it definitely was not my finest nor proudest moment. photo courtesy slowtwitch.com Coach Kevin and I...

Swim Clinics and a Race with No Finish Line – Where I’m Headed Next!

Tuesday 22 Apr 2014 Haley
Screen Shot 2014-04-21 at 5.37.22 PM I was SO freaking INSPIRED by the Boston Marathon yesterday! From Meb’s big win, Shalane’s gutsy race from the front, Rita Jeptoo’s incredible 2:18 (!!!), Team Hoyt’s last Boston, and my own Dynamo coach, teammates’, and friends’ AMAZING performances, there were lots of happy moments yesterday that made me so proud to call myself an endurance sports athlete! This weekend I’m looking forward to meeting a whole new community of multisport athletes in North Carolina at the Enfinity Health Open Water Swim Clinic! I’ll be helping my University of Georgia teammate Andrea, her super-swimmer husband Tim, and the Enfinity Health crew put on an Open Water Swim Clinic at a GORGEOUS lake near Winston Salem. It should be a great time, and you can check out the official flyer with details HERE. NEXT weekend I get to do a different kind of race. The Wings for Life World Run is a GLOBAL race with NO FINISH LINE! Yes, you read that right! Runners just...

Ironman Puerto Rico 70.3… Outside the race!

Monday 21 Apr 2014 Docamandastevens
Pork right off the hog! Outside the Race: 1st I have to say a huge THANK YOU to our wonderful host Isis Casalduc-2002 Miss Puerto Rico and Miss Puerto Rico Universe 2002. With her as our guide, we had the opportunity to visit parts of the island we normally would have never ventured out to see. Below is a list of must do’s once you visit the island of Puerto Rico!   Pork right off the Hog: Restaurant:  Angelito’s Place On day 2 Isis took us to one of her favorite local delicacies.  This place was amazing! The hog is prepared by roasting over an open fire and then the butcher with a machete cut off chunks of pork that was weighed and served fresh! Amanda actually was allowed to handle the machete!!! This is a must visit as this was one of the best meals we had during our stay!!!!   Pork right off the hog! Pork Chop Chop!   Coffee at Caficultura (located on the run course): Restaurant: Caficultura  Isis knew that I was an addict coffee drinker, so she suggested one of her favorite coffee...
