7 Nutrient-Packed Spices

Tuesday 28 Apr 2015 Triathlete.com
Photo: Shutterstock.com Herbs and spices are loaded with nutrients and antioxidants yet add next to nothing calorically. They can literally transform a dish—both in taste and nutritional content. Here are a few herbs and spices you should get more familiar with. Sage Extracts from sage leaf have shown promise in increasing long-term memory and cognitive function, and the antioxidants might help protect against neuronal degeneration. Along with parsley and rosemary, components in sage may also promote bone health. Use it: Fresh is best, and the soft gray-green leaves are most classically paired with pork, apple, chicken and fish as well as tomato-based dishes. Put A Ring On It

Tuesday 28 Apr 2015 Noreply@blogger.com (rappstar)
Happy Mothers' Day to Jessie Clark I'm sure some of you were beginning to wonder what ever happened with the 4 C's Dimond giveaway. Honestly, there were times when I wondered about it too, because giving a bike away gets harder every time I do it. It becomes even worse when I'm training a lot, and my judgement and overall mental capacity becomes severely limited. I am always terrified

The Road To The Woodlands

Monday 27 Apr 2015 Noreply@blogger.com (rappstar)
it's by no means perfect, but it helps tell the story... "How much do you train?" This is a common question for, I think, most pros. Simon Whitfield gave me the best answer to this question, "As much as possible." The key, then, is simply (or not so simply, as the case may be) in defining what is possible. After a lot of trial and a lot of error, I seem to have pretty much settled on

2015 XTERRA West Championships

Tuesday 28 Apr 2015 Melanie@racergirl.com (melanie)
2015 vegas preride I added the XTERRA West Championship to my schedule not only because I really miss and enjoy that style of racing but also because I have been finding that the best taper for a race is to race the weekend before.  I have almost without exception found that resting into race #1 leaves me good but not 100% and the following weekend I feel amazing.  Since I am really hoping to have a good go in St George I thought I would employ this strategy, literally clean the cobwebs off my Superfly, and use the race in Lake Las Vegas as my pre-race tuneup.  Since I had a good race, stayed upright and am quickly recovered and back on track I can say that so far things are going as expected.  Preriding with my roomies Brittany, Katharine and Buttons. I am excited to see the top girls in XTERRA are doing a phenomenal job of raising the bar and pushing each other to continue raising the level in the sport.  Lesley is in her characteristic all year round top shape early...

Resilience

Monday 27 Apr 2015 Noreply@blogger.com (Jennie Hansen)
"Resilience is that ineffable quality that allows some people to be knocked down by life and come back stronger than ever. Rather than letting failure overcome them and drain their resolve, they find a way to rise from the ashes. Psychologists have identified some of the factors that make someone resilient, among them a positive attitude, optimism, the ability to regulate emotions, and the ability to see failure as a form of helpful feedback. Even after misfortune, resilient people are blessed with such an outlook that they are able to change course and soldier on."  (Psychology.com)noun re·sil·ience \ri-ˈzil-yən(t)s\: the ability to become strong, healthy, or successful again after something bad happens: the ability of something to return to its original shape after it has been pulled, stretched, pressed, bent, etc.  Resilience.  It's been a word that's been on my mind a lot lately, and a concept that I'm doing my best to hold onto, along...

17/9/11 Lausanne, Beijing

Monday 03 Oct 2011 Noreply@blogger.com (James Elvery)
Unfortunately I didn’t have the best day in Lausanne. Not sure what it was bit I was just a bit off the pace all day. Maybe the timing since I was at altitude? I had a good swim start and was in the first 5 at 300m, but then I slipped back a bit and wasn’t able to get into the very lead group out of the swim. Onto the bike and there was a small gap across to the lead pack which I would normally jump across without any trouble, but I couldn’t do it and had to settle into the chase pack. I struggled the whole bike and was in even bigger trouble when I started running. 40th. Bugger! Onwards and upwards! From Lausanne I had 3 weeks to prepare for the 2011 Series Grand Final and 2nd Olympic selection race in Beijing. The course in Beijing should have suited me. A one lap non wetsuit swim, and tough hilly bike. After Lausanne I went back to Sigmaringen and spent 2 days in my room with a really bad flu and fever. I recovered quickly and felt in great shape nailing some key sessions and...
