San Juan, Argentina to Host its First Full-Distance IRONMAN in 2026

IRONMAN and EVENTSPORT announced today that the city of San Juan, Argentina will host a new full-distance IRONMAN® triathlon and a 5150®Triathlon Series event. The inaugural IRONMAN San Juan triathlon will make its debut on November 1, 2026, and the 5150 San Juan triathlon will take place on the same race weekend on Friday, October 30, 2026. General registration for the new events is scheduled to open in the coming months.
 
Nestled in the foothills of the Andes, San Juan is renowned for its breathtaking mountain landscapes, warm climate, and rich sporting heritage. The new IRONMAN San Juan triathlon promises to offer an unforgettable experience for athletes from around the world. The event will feature a 226.2 km (140.6-mile) course through one of the most beautiful and unique venues in northern Argentina.

The 2026 IRONMAN San Juan triathlon will offer athletes an unparalleled experience racing through this stunning region of northern Argentina. Athletes will begin their race with a 3.8 km (2.4 mile) swim in the calm and scenic waters of the Punta Negra Dam, with unparalleled views of the San Juan River, Cerro Blanco, and surrounding hills. Once out of the water, athletes will bike 180.2 km (112 miles) through San Juan's vineyards, colorful valleys and dreamlike vistas. The one-lap course will pass serene rivers and panoramic mountain views. The course is designed to offer flat stretches and some challenging hills, while showcasing the beauty of the region. After transitioning to the run, athletes will complete a 42.2 km (26.2 mile) run along the downtown streets of San Juan's historic landmarks, cheered on by San Juan’s local community. The flat and fast course includes a mix of urban streets between Libertador San Martin Avenue, South Connector, and Cantoni Stadium, culminating in an unforgettable experience at the finish line at the Plaza del Bicentenario.
 
The 2026 IRONMAN San Juan triathlon will offer age group qualifying slots for the 2027 IRONMAN World Championship® race in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i.

Salthouse completed the 1.9km swim, 90km bike, and 21.1km run in 4:05:10 – more than five minutes clear of Sunshine Coast-based Dutch athlete Lotte Wilms.
