Franz Loeschke (DEU) would be part of a four-man chase group facing a three-minute deficit that followed race leader TJ Tollakson (USA) into T2 at the conclusion of the bike. It would take Loeschke less than 3 miles to storm his way into the lead on the run and use the day's second-best run to take the victory in Texas.
Sarah True (USA) exited the water with the lead women and managed to complete the 56-mile bike within seconds of the leader. On the strength of a blazing fast transition, True proceeded to lay down a race-best 1:19:26 run. Former ITU standout Paula Finlay (CAN), making her first IRONMAN 70.3 race start, was the only one in the women's field to come close to matching the leader's pace on the run, but it was True who eventually grabbed the finish line banner for the win.
