Created in 1984 as a short distance event, the Embrun triathlon evolved until 1990 when it took the format of a mountain triathlon on an Ironman distance. It is after the international triathlon of Nice the oldest international competition very long distance of France . Since its inception, the event has traditionally held on August 15th. It is organized by the non-profit organization "Embrun Man Organization", chaired by Gérald Iacono and in partnership with the city of Embrun .
The Embrunman runs around Embrun, in the Hautes - Alpes, in France. The triathletes have to follow 3,8 km of swimming, 186 km of bike and a marathon ( 42 km of running) before crossing the finish line, which represents a total distance of 232 km .
