This race celebrates its 15th anniversary of attracting triathletes to Southwest Michigan's resort beach town.
Southwest Michigan's Saint Joseph/Benton Harbor area is known for its beaches, wineries and fruit orchards, and family-friendly vibe. There's plenty to do, whether you're 5 or 55. For kids, there's The Carousel, a hands-on children's museum, and for the older set, a Jack Nicklaus signature golf course. From kayaking, to lounging on the beach, to taking in some art and good food in the quaint and artistic downtown, Benton Harbor is the perfect low-stress locale to spend a race weekend.
The 1.2-mile swim in the clear refreshing waters of Lake Michigan, begins on the beach. The bike course winds through rolling wine country and orchards, and the shaded run is lined with enthusiastic volunteers. Athletes finish on the beach, where families can hang out and play until athletes finish the race.
The 2017 IRONMAN 70.3 Steelhead will offer 30 qualifying slots to the 2018 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa.
Professionals compete for P-750 points and $50,000 prize purse.
