Frankfurt, Stars set to shine at IRONMAN European championship

Friday 06 July 2018
"It's really cool to be the hunted one," says IRONMAN World Champion Patrick Lange. After his victory in Kailua Kona, Hawai'i in October last year, the Darmstadt is on top of the IRONMAN ranking. Last year, he could not make it to the podium due to an injury-related break before the race. "I'm in top form and looking forward to my home race, it's just going to be unbelievable in front of this crowd on Mainkai," says Lange.

However, Jan Frodeno, Andi Boecher and Patrik Nilsson will not make it easy for Patrick. Frodeno, who is back on his feet after a crash last week, is super motivated: "I feel good - otherwise I would not be here - I'm really looking forward to racing again on German soil." The mood here in Frankfurt is unique ", says Jan.

Andi Boecherer and Swede Patrik Nilsson will give their all in the fight for the crown. "My preparations over the past few months have been fully focused on Frankfurt," confirms Nilsson.

The women's field is headed by IRONMAN World Champion Daniela Ryf. "Frankfurt is always a highlight and after Kona one of the most important races in the IRONMAN circle", says Ryf in an interview. Sarah Crowley, defending champion, states: "I'm well prepared and looking forward to the race, there's no time for pressure, I'm making the most of the race."

Besides the two famous IRONMAN athletes, Anne Haug and Sarah True are celebrating their IRONMAN debut. Both were already very successful at the IRONMAN 70.3 distance and will be at the swim start of an IRONMAN race for the first time on Sunday. "I do not even know what it will feel like after 180km of cycling - I have a lot of respect for it," Haug clarifies. Sarah True, however, comes to Frankfurt with a clear goal: "My goal is definitely the Kona qualification - so a placement far ahead would be quite helpful."
