Van Lierde, Lester back to defend at IRONMAN France

Friday 22 June 2018
Nice, France, has recently been named the location of the 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship. With its mix of old-world opulence, year-round sunshine and stunning seaside location, Nice is the unofficial capital of the Côte d’Azur. A magnet for beachgoers and high-rollers since the 19th century, this coastal city has fabulous markets, an enticing old town, glorious architecture and a wealth of high-end restaurants. If you really want to soak up the Riviera vibe, there’s no better place.

Athletes begin with a beach start and embark on a two-loop, 3,8 km swim in the pristine waters of the Mediterranean Sea. The 180 km bike course is the jewel of IRONMAN France as it follows much of the original Nice Triathlon route and passes through villages and mountains. There are 6,500 feet of challenging climbs, but athletes will enjoy beautiful panoramic views. The 42,195 km run will include a flat and fast four-loop course along the Promenade des Anglais. Athletes can expect impressive spectator support along the route.

IRONMAN France offers 40 qualifying slots for the 2018 IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, HI.

Professionals compete for P-2000 KPR points plus $80,000 prize purse.
