Bocherer & Beranek battle to the titles at Challenge Fuerteventura

Andi Böcherer won today the 6th Edition of Challenge Fuerteventura in an exciting and demanding race Will Clarke and Timo Bracht his mail opponents. The multiple middle distance race winning German triathlete recorded a time of 3.59.00 beating Timo Bracht in little more than one minute and Will Clarke by just 35 seconds!

The athletes based in Playitas returned to the event finish line after enjoying the challenging course and beautiful scenery of the journey traveling from Windward to Leeward in the southern part of the island. Sadly, one of the favorites, Frederick Van Lierde, Hawaii Ironman World Champion 2013 had to retire at the end of the bike stage after an unfortunate crash.

In the women’s race, the victory went to Anja Beranek. The top German triathlete took the title of Champion of Challenge Fuerteventura in 4:29.57, followed by Emma Bilham, who arrived a minute later.

Challenge Fuerteventura developed with near perfect conditions for the practice of this thriving sport through a challenging course that pushes athletes to the limit. The ascent to El Cardon was once again the most demanding area for athletes and attracted event more photographers for the landscape show.

The competition based in Playitas, reunited a major cast of Stars of the triathlon world, including World and European champions, Olympic medalists and national champions. Among those previously mentioned, Markus Fachbach, Jonathan Ciavattella and young figures Brennan Townshend, Patrik Nilsson, Albert Moreno, and Joe Skipper. The appointment of the triathlon in Fuerteventura hosted some 200 participants representing 23 countries.

The unique opportunity is given this year to Challenge Fuerteventura, along with Challenge Mogán-Gran Canaria, as qualifiers for ‘TheChampionship’ world championship event organized by the renowned brand Challenge Family, which has 44 Triathlon races in more than twenty countries. The ‘Theachampionship’ will be held June 3rd, 2017 in the Slovak town of Samorín.

Playitas Challenge Fuerteventura competition, entered its sixth edition, this Saturday and became first qualifier in this famed franchise of the Challenge Triathlon World Championship. Challenge Mogán-Gran Canaria, which premieres on September 17th, will also act as a qualifier for the great race of Samorín.

The presence of Fuerteventura and Mogan in this Challenge Family World Championship is an important asset to increase the presence of European triathletes in the Canary Islands, who increasingly move to the islands to train and participate in its international sport.

Challenge Family and x – bionic® announced the new global Triathlon half distance, a Championship event for professional triathletes and age groupers alike. Known as ‘Thechampionship’, the event will take place in the amazing x – bionic® sphere in Samorín, Slovakia, June 3rd, 2017.
