This weekend it´s time for another home-race, the Ironman 70.3 Rügen. Its takes place just some 60min ride by car from where I live in northern Germany. The swim takes place in the Baltic Sea, same like OstseeMan, just with the difference that Binz is much more exposed and really choppy water is expected. Some already talk about that it might be held out as a duathlon race. But hey, this is the Baltic coast. We have 330 days a year more than 30km/hr wind, and unfortunately of these 330 days it´s about 150days with east wind. What means really big waves on coastlines like Binz on the Island of Rügen. This is something that really did not come unexpected… At least not for locals.
From my point of view the race on Sunday will be just a “fun” race and a good and honest training session. After OstseeMan I used the first two weeks to recover with my family in Norway. Unfortunately I got a bad cold just some days after I started with serious training again. All in all there were three weeks with no qualitative and quantitative training after OstseeMan. It´s going to be exciting to see what is possible under these circumstances on Sunday. One thing is for sure, it will be fun to race again. It will be a qualitative pro field with some of the best German and some international athletes like Micheal Raelert, Andreas Dreitz, Faris al Sultan, Mike Aigroz and many more. I will travel to Rügen tomorrow and look forward to see many athletes from my triathlon club TG triZack Rostock e.v. race Ironman 70.3 Rügen on Sunday. Some of our trizack Kids will take part in the Ironkids event as well and some will be volunteers all over the course. There will for sure be many known faces all day long!
Once again I am very proud to represent Singha, Cobbcycling and Tbbapparel on Sunday!
