Due to a lot of snow in the mountains the water will probably be colder than ever. According to the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate, it is an unusual amount of snow at the Hardangervidda plateou for this time of year. The Directorate has never observed as much snow in the mountains over the last 57 years. There are still lots of snow on the highest parts of our bike course. When the snow melts, it will come down to Eidfjord, resulting in cold water at the swim leg. All athletes must therefore be prepared for extra cold water this year.
The safety crew of Norseman Xtreme Triathlon has prepared several scenarios for cold water. Our safety manual consists of a few alternative swim routes. Several times during the Norseman history we have moved the swim to warmer water. But make no mistake, it will still be cold, and be also prepared that the bike leg may be extended if we need to move the swim leg further out in the fjord. We are quite sure that one extra hour at the bike is better than a swim in ice water.
