The PPD Beach2Battleship Triathlon is pleased to announce that Michellie Jones, a legend in the sport of triathlon, will serve as the honorary host of the race weekend that includes the PPD Beach2Battleship Triathlon full and half iron distance events and the New Hanover Regional Medical Center 5K.
Jones is a Kona Ironman world champion (2006), ITU world champion (1998, 1999), XTERRA Triathlon world champion (1996) and Olympic silver medalist (2000). The Australian triathlete has more than 175 wins to her credit across all race distances, both on- and off-road.
Friday, Oct. 24, Jones will be on hand at the PPD Beach2Battleship race expo at the Wilmington Convention Center to sign autographs and meet athletes, friends and visitors. Later, she will welcome athletes at the kickoff dinner.
On race day, Saturday, Oct. 25, look for Jones in the finish line area on Water Street, where the PPD Beach2Battleship and NHRMC 5K athletes will take their final triumphant steps. Finally, she will address the audience at the athlete celebration brunch and awards ceremony, Sunday, Oct. 26 at 10 a.m. in the Wilmington Convention Center. About Michellie Jones
Michellie Jones, an Australian triathlete, is best known for her two wins at the ITU World Championships, a win at the Kona Ironman World Championships and a silver at the Olympics, earning her the distinction as the only triathlete to have been on all three of those podiums. She has enjoyed over 175 career victories at distances from sprints to Ironmans, on- and off-road. Jones continues to train and race, but also works as a coach for Giddy Up Multisports, Sponsorship Commander for ISM, and athlete manager for Compex. In her free time, Jones trains and shows horses in hunter, dressage and western riding.
