Nils Frommhold (DEU) jumped to an early lead on the bike and pulled away from the field on the notoriously tough 90 km course in Lanzarote. Frommhold hit the dismount line carrying a five-minute advantage on Tom Lecomte (FRA) and Emillio Munoz (ESP) who entered T2 together.
Lecomte hit the run course flying and immediately started reducing the gap to Frommhold in the opening km’s of the run. At 8 km’s, Lecomte blew by the early leader and proceeded to lay down a solid 1:12:48 run split to claim the win by a winning margin of over seven minutes on his closet rival.
Lucy Gossage (GBR) spotted the women’s field over four minutes coming out of the water and was forced chase the Beatrice Weiss (AUT) and Camilla Pedersen (DEN) throughout the entire bike.
On the run, Gossage caught and dropped Pedersen early and then set her sights on Wiess out front. Gossage would make her winning move late in the first half of the run while the remainder of the field was left to fight it out for second and third positions on the podium.
